Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Registered Dietitian?
Registered Dietitians are regulated healthcare professionals who have earned a degree specializing in nutrition and dietetics from an accredited university and have completed a dietetic internship or equivalent practical training. Registered Dietitians translate the science of nutrition to provide evidence based medical nutrition therapy to promote health as well as treat chronic illnesses.
what's THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ‘DIETITIAN’ AND ‘NUTRITIONIST’?
Registered Dietitians must be registered with a Provincial Regulatory body, in order to use the protected title “Registered Dietitian” (RD) which is protected by law, whereas anyone can use the title “nutritionist”. A nutritionist may or may not have education or qualifications in nutrition as it is not a protected title. Health benefits usually cover Registered Dietitians vs Nutritionists in Ontario.
How does privacy and confidentiality work?
Information shared is private and confidential, and will not be shared with anyone unless there is risk of harm to the client or others. Any information obtained during sessions with a Registered Dietitian will be held in strict confidence. Client records will be kept secure, to the best of our ability. Nutrisential Inc. follows all jurisprudence and ethical guidelines as established by The College of Dietitians of Ontario.
Can you accept clients outside of Ontario?
Nutrisential Inc. is a team of Registered Dietitians within the province of Ontario, please contact us directly to find out if we are able to accept you as a client.
Are dietitian services covered by extended health plans?
Services by Registered Dietitians (RDs) are often covered by employee health benefits. Most extended health care plans provide partial or full extended health coverage for Registered Dietitian services. We can not guarantee reimbursement, please verify your benefit details with your insurance provider. If your plan does not cover services of a Registered Dietitian, save your receipt as services provided by a Registered Dietitian are exempt from HST and are tax deductible in Ontario.
